Dubai: Meydan Racecourse welcomes its first runners and riders of the 2012/13 UAE racing season on Thursday, with an Emirates airline-sponsored card.

The UAE racing community travels to Meydan following the Jebel Ali Racecourse hosted season-opening race meeting last Friday.

Emirates has long been a supporter of the Meydan Group and serves as the pillar partner and title sponsor of the world’s richest horse race, the season-ending US$10 million (Dh36.7 million) Dubai World Cup, held on March 30, 2013.

“As a long term supporter of horse racing both in Dubai and globally, we look forward to another thrilling racing season,” said Sir Maurice Flanagan, Executive Vice-Chairman, Emirates Airline & Group.

“The world-class Meydan facility is guaranteed to provide racing fans with an unforgettable experience which is synonymous with what Emirates provides our passengers.”

Thursday features a six-race card, and the evening’s feature race is a Dh110,000 Conditions contest, run over 1,600m.

Chairman of the Racing Committee, Malih Al Basti said: “It is only fitting that we begin our Dubai Racing Club season at Meydan with Emirates Airline. Emirates’ support for racing is unprecedented and carries right the way through our season to our concluding race, the Dubai World Cup. We are pleased to have Emirates join us again this season as we celebrate the sport of racing and the success of Dubai.”

Since its first flight took to the air in 1985, Emirates has become one of the fastest-growing international airlines in the world.

Admission to the public areas of Meydan Racecourse is free. Gates open at 5pm and the first race starts at 6.30pm. For further details please contact: +971 4327 2110 or
