The Hague: The His Highness Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival’s seventh leg of the Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup (G3) will be held at the Duindigt racecourse in the Netherlands on Sunday.

This is the fourth year in a row that the festival’s races are being held here, and the Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup has once again attracted some quality horses.

Eleven purebred Arabian horses will take part in the race, which will be run over a distance of 1,900 metres for prize money of 25,000 euros (Dh112,500).

The 11 entries are Alibaba Del Sol, Ameretto, Awam, Kentauer Kossack, Omni DA, Poulain Kossack, Raihan, Blitters Plonja, Grande Duchess T, Lillij Ann and Mirabella de Sol.

The prominent runners for the race are headed by Poulain Kossack, who has two wins from three starts this year, the latest being a top-place finish at the race in Berlin in June. Ameretto also stands a good chance with a win, two second places and a third from four races.

Dutch trainer Karin van den Bos, who grabbed the limelight by completing a double at the Shaikh Zayed Cup and the Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies’ Championship (IFAHR) at the Taby race course, in Stockholm, Sweden, on Tuesday, will be pinning her hopes on Alibaba Del Sol.

The French-bred Dutch runner won the fourth race in the Wathba Stud Farm Cup series, held here at the Duindigt racecourse in June. Raihan and Awam are two other quality houses in the fray.

The event will also witness the Wathba Stud Farm Cup VI, with 11 horses having been entered in this competition reserved for four-year-old-and-above maidens.

Shrek OA, with two second places recently, is the favourite in the 1,800-metre race, followed by Ijad.

But nobody shoulder under-estimate Alligator Kossack, with Jadey Pietrasiewicz being the best jockey of those competing.
