Dubai: Dubai-based 16-year-old Chiara Noja, who represents Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, shot an opening round of one under par 71 in the first round of the Big Green Egg Swedish Stroke Play Championship, which began on Wednesday at the Edenhof Course in GolfUppsala.

A total of 91 players are competing in an initial 36-hole stroke play format around the 6,288 yards, par 72 course.

The German teen stood three under par on the 12th tee but then two bogeys on holes 14 and 18 saw her drop back into the pack. The leader after round one is Sweden’s Isabella Deilert on four under par.

Five nine-hole rounds

At the end of the first two days, 32 players will qualify for the matchplay and those qualified players will then compete in the matchplay championship on Friday and Saturday, which will see a total of five nine-hole rounds with the semi-finals and final being played on Saturday.

The four-day event will have a €40,000 prize pool in play for the top 45 professionals and ties, however only the 32 players qualifying for the matchplay will be eligible to receive points in the LETAS Order of Merit.
