The MENA Tour is currently in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where it's host for two events on its 2022/23 calendar.
The first of the two scheduled events in Saudi Arabia took place at the wonderful Riyadh Golf Club. With a field of 92 players from 27 different countries entering the tournament which was played over 3 rounds.
The weather was very kind to players on the opening days, but the wind on the final day made scoring more challenging over the final 18 holes.
England’s Bailey Gill held a two shot lead heading into the final round and he continued his great form as he had done on the two previous days by again shooting a bogey free round. Signing with rounds of 64, 67, 68 to finish on 17 under par to take victory in the event by three shots. This was the Englishman's second victory in just four starts on the MENA Tour having won on his last start on the MENA Tour in Oman back in 2020.
A mention should go to Gabriel Axell who produced a hole-in-one on the par 3, 14th hole during the final round. The delighted Swede returned with a score of 68 to finish 14 under par for the tournament three shots behind Gill.
This win moves Gill to 49th on the order of merit, which is currently being led by American Brooks Koepka.
Riyadh Golf Club is managed by GOLF SAUDI who have the vision of creating a collection of world class golf facilities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Players were treated to a wonderful welcome & presented with perfect course conditions each day.
The MENA Tour is committed to growing the game of golf throughout the MENA region and each event has a separate category for elite amateur golfers who play in the field. Within that division Dubai based Dan Byrne (IRE) took the spoils over the 3 days at Riyadh Golf Club with rounds of 73, 72, 73 to finish at +2.
The MENA Tour season continues with 'Tournament 4' being played at Dirab Golf Club in Riyadh on December 3rd – 5th.
