Matthew Turner, the leading UAE amateur in 2006-07 showed once again that the young players are going to be hard to beat this season as he won the fifth Emirates Ramadan Open, supported by Callaway, in style on a day of great competition.

His superb 73 took the gross prize on his home course as avenged his narrow defeat in last year's event with a card featuring just two bogeys and a birdie four on the long 13th hole on the Majlis course.

Turner pipped a fellow junior starby one stroke, Dubai Creek's Joel Neale, who returned a 74 along with the home club's Bob Knott. Neale took second place by virtue of a better back nine.

Neale's challenge appeared to be faltering when he bogeyed the 10th and 11th holes but he bounced back to birdie the 12th. Fourth place went to Rakesh Shah with a 75.

The nett prizes were extremely competitive and produced some amazing scoring. Sanjay Amarnani (EGC), who plays off a 21 handicap, managed a magnificent nett 65. Nigel Walker (UGA) was second and Shawn Tilbrook third.

Emirates Golf Club's Thomas Canham led the pack in Division A with a nett 69. John Larson was one shot behind. Division B also saw great scores, with the likes of Amiya Ranjan (UGA) and Ian Watson scoring 69 and 70 respectively.
