Park to accept new offer from Man United

Ji-sung Park expects to sign a new contract at Manchester United before the Premier League opener

New York : Ji-sung Park expects to sign a new contract at Manchester United before the Premier League opener against West Bromwich Albion on August 14 after admitting he has no desire to leave Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old midfielder, a £4 million (Dh24.02 million) buy from PSV Eindhoven in June 2005, has just 11 months to run on his deal at United, but Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed last week that the South Korean had been offered a two-year extension.

With defender Chris Smalling signing a new deal, securing Park to a new contract will leave the club free to push on with talks with Mexican forward Javier Hernandez.

"I have never thought about leaving the club," Park said.

"My mind was always on staying at United."

Park expects his appearances to be rotated by Ferguson because of the competition for places from the likes of Nani, Ryan Giggs, Antonio Valencia and summer signing Ashley Young.

Park said: "As a United player, you know everyone has to fight for places, particularly in the wing positions because of the manager's rotation. But everyone gets the opportunity to play and, when you get that opportunity, you have to show you deserve to play more."

Meanwhile, United outclassed Major League Soccer's All-Stars for the second straight year on Wednesday, beating the hosts 4-0 in their friendly.
