Dubai: Al Ain football club is taking legal action against their former coach Cosmin Olaroiu, who they allege signed a contract extension with Al Ain before leaving to join Al Ahli in July.
Olaroiu, who lifted two consecutive UAE league titles in two years at the Garden City club, denies the allegations and insists he left after failing to agree on the terms of a new contract. In a bizarre turn of events, he was later replaced by Al Ahli’s former manager Quique Sanchez Flores.
A statement from Al Ain confirmed the club is pursuing legal action through the UAE Football Association and Fifa.
The legal dispute is set to add a new dimension to the rivalry between the two sides in Arabian Gulf League, with Dubai-based Al Ahli heading the table and Al Ain failing to reproduce their consistent form of previous years.
