Dubai: Pakistan-born Shaimon Anwar steered Kerala's Kannur district to an emphatic 85 runs. Anwar is the lone international player who according to the rules of the Inter-District Kerala Cricket League can play for the district and he hit a whirlwind 34 and bagged four wickets against Malappuram.
Anwar, who also represents the UAE and is known as a hard hitter, hit four sixers and two fours to score 34 runs in just 11 balls.
He also helped Kannur Kites record 202 for 8 in 20 overs at Zabeel Park against Malappuram.
IPL style
This tournament, organised by the Sub Con Cricket Club and Celebrations under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council, is held in Indian Premier League style. Batting first Kannur Kites opener Harish Menon hit 30 runs while middle order batsman Shibith scored 42 runs in 17 balls. Malappuram failed to get a good start, losing two quick wickets and later on struggled to score against a good bowling attack.
Anwar also took four wickets for 14 runs to bowl out Malappuram for 117 runs in 17 overs.
