They beat Dubai Modern High School to take under-17 girls' championship a second year running
Sharjah: Delhi Private School (DPS) Dubai emerged as the champions of the Under-17 girls Max Talent Acer Cup inter school tournament beating Dubai Modern High School for the second successive year.
Rashi Dalmiya, captain of Dubai Modern, won the toss and elected to field. DPS captain Malitha and Namrata opened the innings, Namrata did not last long. A second wicket partnership between Malitha and Sambahvi took the score to 81 for 1 wicket as Malitha (31) lost her wicket trying to accelerate the run rate. The final score read 82 for 4 in 12 overs. Dubai Modern gifted 35 runs as extras.
Dubai Modern relying on Dalmiya started confidently putting up 27 runs for the first wicket. Rashi fell too early and Dubai Modern were thereafter never in control of the match. They fell short of the target by 15 runs. Arushi (3 for 18) and Namrutha (2 for 10) were the chief destroyers.
Meanwhile, in the boys Under-17 semifinal, Indian High School, Dubai beat Emirates English Speaking School by 15 runs to qualify for the finals and meet holders DPS, Sharjah. In another semifinal, DPS Sharjah got the better of DPS, Dubai .
The Indian High School posted 197 for 4 in 21 overs through Sahil's unbeaten 58 and Jay Joshi's 52 runs. Emirates English Speaking were restricted to 182 for 7 despite Kuldeep's 65 and Pratik's 55 runs. Harshesh was the chief destroyer with a spell of 4 for 26.
