Australians on course for yachting victory

Qingdao, China: Australia's men's and women's 470 teams all but assured themselves of Olympic sailing gold on Saturday.

Nathan Wilmot and Malcolm Page hold such an advantage over Sven Coster and Kalle Coster of the Netherlands after their 10-race opening series that they will only be denied gold if they do not make a genuine attempt to start and finish tomorrow's medal race.

Wilmot and Page are sailing their last competitive regatta in the 470 dinghy together.

Elise Rechichi and Tessa Parkinson are also in a commanding position in the women's 470, holding a 22-point advantage over Dutch duo Marcelien de Koning and Lobke Berkhout going into tomorrow's medal race. The Dutch need a win tomorrow while hoping the Australians are disqualified.

A lack of wind forced the cancellation yesterday of the scheduled Finn and Yngling medal races. Winds of less than five knots saw the Finn race abandoned and The Yngling race failed to sail.
