Arab judokas notch up two more

Dubai: Arab athletes added two medals on Wednesday to the bronze medal won by the Algerian Judoka Thoraya Haddad in the women's Judo 52kg event on the second day of the Beijing Olympics.

Algeria's Amar Benikhlef won the silver medal in the men's Judo 90kg category after losing to Georgia's Irakli Tsirekidze who clinched the gold medal in the final yesterday.

The second Arab medal was a bronze won by Egyptian Judoka Hesham Mesbah in the same 90kg category.

The Egyptian beat France's Dafreville Yves-Matthieu to the third place and bronze medal play off.

The Algerian who won the silver beat on his way to the final Yves-Matthieu of France, Sergei Aschwanden of Switzerland, David Alarza of Spain and Mohammad Elassri of Morocco before losing in the final to the Georgian.

Mesbah beat Korean Choi Sunho, Mamadov of Azerbaijan and Kazusenok of Belarus on his way to clinching the bronze.
