What better insight into a country’s culture and history than stamps that uniquely commemorate a nation’s key personalities and achievements through an excellent artistic medium? Oman Post has launched four interactive stamps celebrating, ‘Maidan’, one of the most celebrated art forms in poetry and traditional music in Oman. Maidan is an artistic war of words contest where Omani men gather in their villages, towns and cities to recite poems and sing traditional music.

The stamps pay homage to time-honoured Omani traditions, with each stamp depicting a specific theme and titled, ‘Dance’, ‘The Poet and the Singer’, ‘Maidan Instruments’, and ‘Maidan Genre in General’. The stamps are available in baizas 100, 200, 300 and 400 denominations and is available in most of the branches of Oman Post in Oman.

They portray a range of Oman’s colourful flora and fauna, sports personalities, culture and historic themes, as well as modern concepts through beautifully choreographed characterisation. Umaima Bint Ibrahim Masoud, a keen collector of stamps and First Day Covers says, “The two new recent sets of stamps released, are indeed very unique in design. I have added them to my collection as soon as it was available. I have almost all stamps released since the last ten years when I became a member of the philatelic society.”

Last month saw Oman Post launch another exclusive stamp to highlight Oman’s efforts against the pandemic. Titled, Oman faces Corona, Covid 19, the stamp shows health workers in a simple yet impressive design.
