Honesty is the best policy

My vote goes to Imran Khan as he is the only man in Pakistan politics who keeps his word (‘Cricketer-turned-politician Khan vows to sweep Pakistan polls’, Gulf News, January 31). Honesty is what we want. I am sure if he comes into power, he can eradicate corruption within 90 days once he finds and replaces several heads from various departments with honest ones. I wish they would allow Overseas Pakistanis to vote and I think they should set up election booths in Dubai, the UK, Saudi Arabia and the US.
From Mr Amjad Khan
Dubai

A better Pakistan
I hope that Khan will bring in change as he is Pakistan’s last hope. I pray that he is given the strength to help the poor.
From Mr Amr Shahzad
Dubai

Fed up
Most of the people in Pakistan, especially the young ones and even ones in small towns and villages, are seeking change as they are fed up with corrupt politicians. I know Khan will stay true to his word.
From Mr Farooq Shah
Sharjah

Moving forward
I am a student and I really think Khan can bring a positive change in Pakistan. I always support him and will vote for him during the elections as he is a man of his word. Pakistan will move towards progress and growth through his leadership.

Shedding light
I would like to thank Gulf News for taking a serious approach towards this issue and for letting us know about the feedback from the concerned authorities on it (‘Parents still worried about lack of seats at Indian schools’, Gulf News, January 31). I am hoping for a positive solution, at least in the coming year.
From Ms Trija Rajan
Abu Dhabi

The lucky one
My son was among the lucky ones to get admission in the school. I never thought my child would be selected, as there were only 30 seats available for Grade 1. I sincerely hope that the authorities grant approval for more schools based on the Indian curriculum in Abu Dhabi so that this problem does not persist.
From Mr Viswanath
Abu Dhabi

Taking advantage
It is such a shame that property owners are taking advantage of the situation (‘Apartment rental rates shoot up following Sharjah tower fire’, Gulf News, January 31). The authorities should take action against landlords involved in this.
From Mr Jamal
Dubai

Exploitation
This is such a shame. How can you exploit this situation to make some extra money?
From Mr Saad
Dubai

It’s all about the money
What is happening is sad but it’s true. Please wake up — this is the modern world where it’s all about money. It’s about making hay while the sun shines. Are we checking the misery behind every business transaction? No one seems to care.
From Mr Rajev
Dubai

Misuse of power
Rents should be lowered by 50 per cent in some buildings in Sharjah as there’s practically no safety assurance. What are the authorities doing about the landlords who are misusing their power and taking advantage of others at such a bad time?
From Mr Aboud
Dubai

No social responsibility
It is very sad to read this news. This is an opportunity for every resident or corporation to show a positive gesture. What we are seeing here is landlords forgetting their social responsibility.
From Mr Sunil
Dubai

Wrong act
Shame on the people who have increased the rents after seeing the needs of people who are left with nothing after this tragedy. I think the authorities should monitor such issues.
From Ms Shahnawaz Mohammad
Dubai

Inspiring many
I don’t think the report downgrades any country or any nationality at all as there are beggars in every country (‘Begging for a living, teenager dreams of becoming a teacher’, Gulf News, January 30). There are even beggars in countries that we think are rich. This girl inspires me so much. At a very young age she is very sure of what she wants and has a very noble ambition at that. I have always considered teaching as the noblest profession. I hope teenagers out there will somehow get inspiration from her.
