Turn off, tune in to climate change

Last updated:

The lights will go out in Dubai on March 29. Not permanently, as it is not a curfew, and not completely, so certain safety measures must be observed. But it is in accord with a global initiative by the World Wide Fund for Nature's campaign to highlight climate change.

What better way for the Dubai Government to demonstrate solidarity with the campaign? Some may dispute the climate change scientists repeatedly advise is occurring at an ever-increasing pace, but the greater percentage of the public are convinced it is happening.

Equally, there will be naysayers who will point out that switching off some of the lights in Dubai serves very little purpose as the majority of the public will not comply with the voluntary request to reduce consumption of electricity for one hour.

Those arguing along these lines may be right - but Dubai residents can always prove them wrong.
