The world should unite to enforce Resolution 1860 and bring about a ceasefire

Last Thursday the United Nations passed Resolution 1860 seeking a truce in Gaza, but both Hamas and Israel rejected the resolution, and the fighting in Gaza is continuing more fiercely than ever. While the members of the United Nations waste their time talking, women and children are dying in Gaza. While they seek words that will satisfy them as they sit in New York, mosques and hospitals in Gaza are being destroyed.

There is no reason to believe that the United Nations has any influence on events. Israel has ignored tens of resolutions passed over decades, and has continued on its arrogant and brutal path. What is worse, those members that passed the resolution do not feel that they have to enforce it. The United States and others will not impose sanctions on Israel for one of the worst days of warfare in Gaza, one day after Resolution 1860 was passed.

Israel is not interested in talking. The continuing action in Gaza shows every sign of becoming increasingly ferocious and bloody. Israel will have to be dragged into recognising that murdering a population is a crime against humanity.
