Helping graduates join the workforce
This process must be part of long-term job strategy that caters to Emiratis
The recent job fair Tawdheef in Abu Dhabi gives a glimpse into the issue of Emiratis looking for job opportunities and the positions made available in the workforce. Over the next decade, Abu Dhabi is expected to create more than 600,000 new jobs according to officials. The number of Emiratis seeking jobs in the emirate will be around 13,000. "For the first time in the exhibition's history only [organisations] with immediate job openings for UAE nationals are taking part," said Tawdheef's director Hayete Jemai.
The exhibition is one example of the overall situation in the country. It is only natural that there will always be Emiratis looking for job placements given the annual number of graduates from colleges and universities. But there has to be a mechanism in place which ensures training for graduates to enable them to join the workforce. Such a process should be an integral part of a long-term strategy that caters to Emirati college graduates.
