Bus service is part of solution
Buses may not be the entire answer to traffic congestion but they are an integral part of any solution. Plans by the Sharjah Public Transport Corporation to start an intra-city bus service in May will go a long way to reducing the number of cars on the roads.
Efficient public transport is one of the main attractions of the world's major cities. Efficiency is the key word. Knowing that a bus is going to stop or depart at a certain time allows potential commuters to plan their journey and use the services.
Providing the fare is, well, fair and in Sharjah it will be fixed at a reasonable Dh3, making the attraction to commuters obvious. This is not a magic wand. The roads will not be unblocked just because buses appear, but buses and public transport in general are the way forward in every sense.
