Dubai: Tropical storm Luban, which formed in the Arabian Sea, is heading towards Oman and Yemen and will further intensify in the next 24 hours. The storm will have no direct influence on UAE’s weather, however, forecasters said.
As of 3pm on Monday, the tropical depression that formed in the middle of the Arabian Sea had intensified and had become a tropical storm called ‘Luban, the fourth weather alert from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said.
The tropical storm was located at a latitude 12.4 N and longitude 62 E, 990 kilometres east-southeast from Salalah, 880 kilometres east from Socotra, moving at a speed of 18km/h on Monday afternoon.
The tropical storm is moving west-northwest toward the coasts of Oman and Yemen with wind-speed of 80km/h to 100km/h. It is expected to further intensify over the next 24 hours.
The NCM on Monday maintained that UAE residents should not worry as the country is not in the tropical storm’s path, based on numerical models. It will also have an indirect influence on the country’s weather.
Meanwhile, forecasters urged motorists to be cautions by Tuesday and Wednesday evening and early morning as fog or mist could form and cause visibility to deteriorate.
The weather might also turn hazy during the day due to south-easterly to northeaster wind.
Both the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea will be slight to moderate on Tuesday and Wednesday.
