Dubai: If you logged into one of your social media accounts and saw a video of rain in the UAE, it is not a hoax.

Rain is expected in certain parts of the country today. It rained in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Fujairah on Saturday — and it wasn't just a drizzle, as stated by the National Centre of Meterology (NCM).

Dr Ahmad Habib, a meteorologist at the NCM, told Gulf News: “We are witnessing heavy rain in the south and west of Abu Dhabi, south of Al Ain and Fujairah. The weather is in a transition period."

The country is under the effect of low pressure in the air, he explained.

"The clouds are coming in from Saudi Arabia and developing over the UAE. So, it is causing rainfall and thunder at times,” said Dr. Habib.

If you missed the rain, don’t worry. The NCM is expecting the unexpected downpour to continue for the coming three days.

It may not be consistent, but the country will experience cloud formation and rainfall, mostly in the south and east areas of the country.

Dr Habib said: “We are forecasting rain again (Sunday), especially in the night, and Monday and Tuesday, too. But, it will be like a wave – not continuous, it will stop and then start again. The chance of the whole country getting rain is less.”
