Dubai: While many residents have started moving out of Dubai’s Al Khail Gate community due to the exorbitant parking fees awaiting them from Sunday, some tenants have received a breather.
The management has decided to allow them secure a parking permit for a second car, allowing tenants to cut down the annual expenses for parking two cars from Dh14, 180 to Dh5,000, Gulf News has learnt.
Those who started moving out are mainly families with two or more cars living in one bedroom apartments and tenants — bachelors and families — with multiple cars in shared apartments.
C C. Shaji, who lived in a one-bedroom apartment in the community for almost eight years, said he was forced to shift to Sharjah as the family has two cars.
Residents said the Al Khail Gate property management last week started issuing No Objection Certificate (NOC) to RTA to allocate a second permit for occupants of two bedroom apartments with two cars.
As reported by Gulf News earlier, this was a request raised by several families with two cars.
Amending its first policy that two permits would be issued only to three bedroom apartments, the management decided to issue NOC for two bedroom apartments with certain conditions.
Those who received the NOC said they had to prove the second car also belongs to a member of the same family that holds the Ejari tenancy contract.
The second permit issued to some tenants bears the tag “exceptional".
R. Balachandran, whose family got an NOC for a second permit, said they had started hunting for homes in other communities fearing the huge parking fees.
“It is a big relief that they issued an NOC for a second permit for my wife’s car. So we have decided to stay back as we have many friends here.”
However, it is not clear if there will be cap for NOC for the second permit as the number of parking slots are limited in the community.
Gulf News queries regarding this were not immediately answered by the property management and RTA.
