Dubai: Dubai Ladies Club is offering high-achieving female Emirati students a free membership to the club this summer as part of a newly launched programme.

The programme provides free Dubai Ladies Club membership for three months to Emirati high school and university female graduates who have achieved a 95 per cent score in their final exams and a 3.6 average GPA in the 2017-18 academic year.

The ‘Academic Excellence’ initiative was launched under the patronage of Shaikha Manal Bint Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, president of Dubai Women Establishment and president of Dubai Ladies Club, in line with the club’s activities during the ‘Year of Zayed’.

It was designed to spread happiness among the female graduates by providing them with an opportunity to enjoy the club’s services and facilities during the summer break, ahead of the new academic year.

Lamia Abdul Aziz Khan highlighted that the ‘Academic Excellence’ package reflects the values of the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who strongly encouraged women to pursue education, achieve their goals and contribute to the UAE’s development journey.

“Thanks to his wise vision, Emirati women have excelled to reach the highest levels across all sectors, and play an important role in strengthening the UAE’s standing internationally,” she said. “The UAE was ranked first worldwide in the ‘literacy rate’ indicator in the Global Gender Gap Report and the ‘secondary enrolment gender gap’ indicator in the Human Capital Report by the World Economic Forum.

She emphasised that women make up 70 per cent of university graduates today, up from just 11.1 per cent in 1971, and that 56 per cent of the UAE’s graduates in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) at government universities are women, which highlights their interest in specialised fields.

Khan said that this initiative comes in line with the wise leadership’s objectives to acknowledge the achievements of remarkable students, and encourage them to continue on their path of success and creativity.
