His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has ordered the release of 700 prisoners of different nationalities from Dubai’s correctional and punitive establishments ahead of Ramadan.

Attorney General of Dubai Essam Eisa Al Humaidan said His Highness’s decision to pardon inmates is aimed at offering them a fresh start in life and easing their families’ suffering, as well as helping the prisoners reintegrate into the community. Al Humaidan said this gesture will have a positive impact on the community by giving the prisoners a chance to rejoin their families and start a new chapter in their lives.

The Attorney General also said that Dubai Public Prosecution has commenced the legal procedures for implementing Shaikh Mohammad’s order, which is being carried out in collaboration with Dubai Police.

In Ajman, His Highness Shaikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, has announced pardoning 70 prisoners.

Also, His Highness Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, pardoned 302 prisoners on the occasion of Year of Zayed and Ramadan.

Earlier, President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan pardoned 935 prisoners on the occasion of Ramadan. The prisoners, who have served various sentences, will soon be released to join their families. The gesture reflects Shaikh Khalifa’s keenness to provide prisoners an opportunity to start a new life and alleviate the hardships of their families.

Also on Monday,His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, ordered the release of 304 prisoners of various nationalities on the occasion of Ramadan.

The pardoned prisoners were found to be eligible for pardon after they met the conditions of good conduct.

The order is in line with Dr Shaikh Sultan’s keenness to bring happiness and hope to inmates and their families, especially during the fasting month.
