Abu Dhabi: More Emirati women are looking to join the police force, a senior official from the Women’s Police Affairs’ Office said on Wednesday.
“Women are looking to join the police in ever-increasing numbers. More parents are making contact and wanting to know the path to employment in the police for their daughters,” said Major Dr Amnah Al Beloushi, Director of the Women’s Police Affairs’ Office. She said they bring with them a unique set of skills which further enhances communicating with the community effectively.
Speaking to Gulf News on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of first women’s police batch’s graduation ceremony at the Abu Dhabi University, she said, “Emirati women are natural leaders and possess great capabilities to participate in building a secure community and providing stability across the country. They have been a cornerstone in community life and continue to provide vital skills and capabilities that benefit the nation.”
Recently, the Abu Dhabi Police celebrated the 40th anniversary of its first women’s police batch and senior officials appreciated their achievements and encouraged empowering women in the country.
Dr Al Beloushi said, “Female police officers bring a unique skill set to the job and at times community members are more comfortable in the presence of female officers, especially women and children. This is important when seeking information important in police work.”
Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Hammad Ahmad Al Hammadi, Director of the Community Security Sector at Abu Dhabi Police, reflected on the role of late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan in laying the foundation for the progress of Emirati women, by recognising and supporting their central role in community life while encouraging women to embrace their creativity in the pursuit of excellence.
He honoured the women police graduates as well as other members of the first, second and third batch of female police graduates. A number of other distinguished former and current female personnel were also felicitated for their services.
“The women are now at the forefront of the country’s development with many females undertaking leading positions across the community, while the leaders continue to demonstrate an unwavering determination to meet the hopes and aspirations of women in the country,” Al Hammadi said.
The Women’s Police School, Al Hammadi said, was set up to inspire and prepare women to advance the security of the nation by utilising their unique talents in all aspects of work.
“The school has been critical in preparing females with the academic and physical training required to excel in various spheres of police and security work over the last 40 years,” Al Hammadi said.
