Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) Women’s Committee kicked off a ‘Run for Zayed’ sports activity in line with celebrating the ‘Year of Zayed’ in the UAE, which marks 100 years since the birth of the country’s Founding Father, Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The run is part of Dewa’s participation in the UAE National Sports Day 2018.
The event aims to encourage female employees to exercise by running and jogging on a three-kilometre track in Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park and develop their sporting spirit, in light of the support for women and sports from the late Shaikh Zayed.
“Dewa Women’s Committee organised the running activity for its female staff in line with the ‘Year of Zayed’ 2018, which has been declared by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to commemorate and honour the legacy of Shaikh Zayed and perpetuate the memory of his support for women and sports in the UAE. The event also comes within the framework of Dewa’s efforts to promote the participation of Emirati women in sports in conjunction with National Sports Day 2018,” said Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa.
“Dewa organises sports events for its female employees throughout the year. The women’s sports teams participate in many competitions at all levels and have achieved excellent results and won many titles in individual and group games in those competitions,” Al Tayer said.
Khowla Al Muhairi, chairperson of Dewa Women’s Committee, said the run and other initiatives help women realise an active and vibrant lifestyle full of positive energy, and strengthen communication.
