Cairo: Kuwaiti Emir Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber is due to visit China next week amid growing relations between both countries, the official Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported on Tuesday.
The visit, from July 7 to 10, is aimed at bolstering economic links that have grown in recent years between Kuwait and China, the agency said. During the visit, the Kuwaiti leader will hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Economic ties between Kuwait and China have grown since Emir Sabah visited Beijing in 2009. Officials from both countries have since exchanged visits.
China is Kuwait’s main trade partner. Trade volume between the two countries has surged from $9.5 billion in 2016 to $12.04 billion the following year.
There are some 40 Chinese companies working in Kuwait mainly in sectors of oil, construction and infrastructure.
Kuwait is the first Arab country that has invested $10 billion in China’s sovereign fund since 2005, according to KUNA.
