Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday rejected a compromise deal submitted by parents of a child servant, pardoning a district judge and his wife accused of torturing the domestic help.

The IHC has been hearing a case regarding 10-year-old girl Tayyaba who was allegedly tortured repeatedly while she worked at the residence of additional district and sessions Judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan and his wife Maheen Zafar.

The case has been in the media spotlight in the country and also attracted international attention.

The accused will be indicted after the proceedings in the next hearing of the case, which is scheduled for May 19, the court said.

The court granted exemption to Maheen Zafar from appearing in person in further hearings following an application she had filed though her counsel. “[She is] exempted for the time being unless she is called,” the IHC order said.

The court directed authorities to produce the girl in the court on May 19 as her parents had pleaded the court to arrange a meeting with their child.

The couple had been booked after the victim accused them of keeping her in wrongful confinement, burning her hand over a missing broom, beating her with a ladle, detaining her in a storeroom and threatening her of worse torture.
