Reader wants stop to litter ruining charm of Fujairah park

Last updated:

After reading and becoming impressed with community reports in Gulf News, I too thought of voicing my opinion to create awareness about an issue we are facing.

Fujairah is a small city with a mysterious desert charm.

We have only one park dedicated to women and children in Fujairah and many of us love spending our evenings there after a tiring day.

The park I mention is just opposite my home and I go there often to refresh myself during the evenings. I watch children playing and their mothers relaxing on the lawn or people walking briskly around the park.

However, one particular incident attracted my attention recently. I saw a group of boys running around and screaming at the top of their lungs.

They were not only chasing each other, but spraying something on each other and behaving wildly.

The spray can seemed to contain confetti of some kind, which was stringy and rubbery once released. I have noticed a great deal of litter because of this behaviour.

No one stopped them from spoiling the grass and the atmosphere of the park. I was disappointed to witness this incident.

The first thing that bothered me was the reckless indifference of the children and my second concern was about parents leaving their children to do as they may, without paying any attention to their activities.

I would like our children to be aware of their surroundings and not litter anywhere, especially in parks where they are supposed to enjoy playing with their fellow mates.

They should be supervised by parents, who also need to ensure they keep the play area clean.

Additionally, the management of such recreational areas should maintain the surroundings and keep them in an orderly condition.

They should also take up the responsibility to warn children or put up notice boards warning them not to scribble all over walls with red markers, which is also a sickening act.

Here are some tips for parents:

1. Don't leave your children unattended.

2. Watch what they carry with them into the park.

3. Don't allow them to litter, as it spoils the beauty of the place.

4. Encourage your children to play safely.
