Fine for the violation nowhere near the cost of inconvenience

This picture was [taken] on a Friday afternoon, in the parking area outside a supermarket in Bur Dubai.

The scene is a common one for many of us — people can often find cars double-parked, while [their owners] step into the supermarket for a quick errand. The car that is double parked [will often be there with its] hazard lights on for an unknown duration [of time].

Similar scenes can be noticed in many other locations as well. Vehicles which [have been] blocked due to such motorists can [find themselves] stuck for a long time. There have been cases when drivers in an emergency situation were unable to move their cars.

Currently, the authorities [will levy] Dh300 fine for "parking behind vehicles and blocking their movement" and a Dh200 fine for "blocking traffic".

However, if violators receive the fine, the amount is nowhere near [the] inconvenience [it causes] to [affected] motorists and it does not offset the harm caused by such acts. I urge motorists be patient when in search of a parking space, to have concern for others and contribute to road safety.
