DUBAI Well-heeled residents of Dubai get their hair coloured and highlighted by celebrity stylists specially flown in for them by select salons in the city.

Rachel Vanessa Roberts, Brand Manager of JetSet, which offers stylists like Negin Zand and Yoshi Hagiwara, said: “Women in the region are synonymous with impeccably high grooming standards, which is probably part of the reason why our celebrity stylist visits are so well received. Women here strive for that ‘A List’ look and are willing to invest in their appearance - they want the best of the best.”

She said: “As a pair, the cut and colour masters really can do it all. The queen of colour Zand and Tokyo-trained perfectionist Hagiwara have a regular client base in the UAE. Residents schedule their next appointments in advance while the stylists are still here. Zand’s hair colours are done in such a way that the effect can last for up to four months between appointments with no obvious re-growth.

Latest trends

It’s much the same story at Belle Femme Beauty Salon. It’s managing director Bodour Al Hilali said: “Many celebrity stylists and colourists visit our salon. Among them are Tracey Cunningham, Jen Atkin and George Papanikolas, one of the most celebrated colourists in Hollywood.”

She said,“We at Belle Femme are pro training. Hairdressers attend training all year to be up to date with the latest trends. By bringing in these celebrity hair stylists and colourists, we get to train our team and at the same time provide our clients the option of a unique experience. Women in Dubai and the region are very conscious about their looks in general, hair and make up and are up to date with the latest trends. They expect us to provide them with the same.”

The celeb stylists have tightly fitted in appointments during their visits. “They visit every three months and their schedules are packed back-to-back between 9am and 9pm,” said Roberts.

Similarly at Belle Femme, Bodour said: “They visit at least four times a year. And usually bookings start from 10am to 9pm.”

Both salons declined to reveal their charges, but a session with Hollywood stylists can cost a few thousand dirhams, media reports show. Bodour said on popular demand her salon organised a “mane addicts” seminar for hair and make-up with Jen Atkin and Mary Phillips. “The guest model was Khloe Kardashian,” she added.

Roberts said Zand and Hagiwara have an impressive client list that includes names like Madonna, Megan Fox, Jennifer Anniston, Angelina Jolie, Lindsay Lohan, Sarah Hyland, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway. So getting their hair done by such celeb stylists is a privilege for UAE residents.

“Zand’s coveted colouring technique has been developed from a personal interest in the effect of sunlight on hair. Zand utilises the age-old French ‘Balayage’ technique, a free-form approach to highlighting hair that can be accomplished in just 15 minutes.”

Similarly, she claimed people flock to Yoshi for his “carefully crafted, precision cuts and flattering, face-framing layers. Hagiwara brings three decades of styling experience and a tenure as Frederic Fekkai’s head stylist to the cutting table. He is an established force in the beauty industry and has built a solid reputation.”
