The inaugural Islamic Arts Biennale has now been moved to Jeddah. This is largely due to the fact that there are several historical sites in the region that make it the ideal place for the festival. The event, which will be held next year and has been moved from Riyadh promises to showcase the best in Islamic arts and culture.
The objective of the event is to showcase the rich tradition of the Kingdom and will “complement the biennale’s objective to interlink past, present and future.”
There are in excess of 60 artists who will showcase their work at the Islamic Arts Biennale and the event will be overseen by the Ministry of Culture of Saudi Arabia. The focus will alternate from contemporary arts to Islamic arts every year, making this inaugural event special indeed.
Unlike the Contemporary Arts Festival, the Islamic Arts Biennale will have a keen focus on focus on the arts and tradition that stem from Islamic culture.
Furthermore, the organisers announced the curators for the event. They include, Sumayya Vally, Saad Alrashed; Omniya Abdel Barr and Julian Raby; all prominent names in the industry.
