Thai community celebrates National Day
Celebration also marked the 85th birthday of Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej
Dubai: The Thai community in Dubai celebrated their National Day and the 85th birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Tuesday night at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Dubai International Financial Centre.
King Bhumibol, the world’s longest reigning monarch, celebrated his birthday on December 5, which is also marks the country’s National Day.
Minister of Social Affairs Mariam Mohammad Khalfan Al Roumi attended the event alongside members of the Diplomatic Corps and the Thai community.
Acting Consul-General Fabio Chinda in his speech expressed his belated greetings to the UAE for its 41st National Day. He said that the UAE-Thailand relations continue to grow especially in business and cultural relations.
“Thailand and the UAE remain closely [bonded] through people to people contact and cultural exchanges. What I found most valuable about the UAE is that they feel strong appreciation of the Thai culture, cuisine, and customs among other Emirati friends,” Chinda said.
“More than 100,000 tourists from UAE visit Thailand every year. While at the same time, the number of Thai nationals visiting UAE rises every year and the Thai community has expanded to reach more than 12,000,” he added.
Most of the Thai expatriates in the UAE are skilled and semi-skilled workers who are employed in petro-chemical, hospitality and construction industries. Others hold positions in restaurant and airline businesses.
During the celebration, Chinda introduced newly appointed Thai Consul-General Thosaporn Moonlasartsathorn, who arrived in the country on December 2. Moonlasartsathorn will assume his post once all diplomatic formalities have been completed.
