Shiamak Davar - the man behind the stunning dance routines performed at Sunday night's IIFA awards - is bringing his famous brand of choreography to Dubai this month.

Davar, who has choreographed the IIFA performances for a number of years, working with stars such as Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi and Dia Mirza at this year's event, is organising a series of workshops, called Summer Funk, starting June 13 at various locations across the city.

The popular summer workshop was introduced by the Shiamak Davar Institute of Performing Arts (SDIPA) in 1994 to train amateur performers of all ages in a variety of dance styles and in the finer nuances of professional stage performance.

The workshop is open to dance enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. There are elementary and advanced level batches for children aged four to six years and seven to 11 years and elementary, elementary advanced, intermediate and intermediate advanced level courses for those over 12 and adults.

During 15 one hour sessions participants will learn jazz, rap, rock and roll, Afro jazz, Indo jazz and salsa among other dance styles.

They will get the opportunity to show off their newly acquired skills at the Summer Funk Show to be held on July 18.

"Our motto is 'have feet; will dance' and through my institute I want to share with people around the world, the exhilarating language of dance and music and give them the confidence to perform on stage," says Davar, whose celebrity students include actors Shahid Kapoor and Darsheel Safary.

The workshop will be conducted by experienced SDIPA trainers at various venues across Dubai. These include Marriott Apartments, Deira, Astoria Hotel, Bur Dubai, The Hayya Club, Meadows, Lamcy Plaza, Pharoah's Club at Wafi City and the India Club.
