Ranbir Kapoor scores again at this year’s IIFAs

Ranbir Kapoor’s blockbuster Barfi! has struck again on the award front, scooping nine awards in the technical category of this year’s International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA), which were announced on Tuesday ahead of the awards, which take palce in Macau on July 5. Billed as Bollywood’s answer to the Oscars, Barfi! won awards in categories including Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, Best Sound Design and Best Background Score. The artists will be honoured at a glittering awards weekend at the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel.

Director Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs Of Wasseypur will take home awards in categories including Best Action (Shyam Kaushal) and Best Dialogue (Zeishan Quadri, Akhilesh, Sachin Ladia and Anurag Kashyap). The latter award will be shared with Juhi Chaturvedi for the sperm-donation comedy Vicky Donor.

The award for Best Editing went to the Vidya Balan’s thriller Kahaani (Namrata Rao) and Best Choreography was won by Ganesh Acharya for his work in Agneepath’s Chikini Chameli. Actor Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger will take home the Best Special Effects (Pankaj Khanopur, Sherry Bharda and Vishal Anand). The highly-anticipated awards ceremony will see the return of Abhishek Bachchan to the IIFA celebrations. Over the years, the weekend that culminates with an awards presentation ceremony has attracted some of the biggest names including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. Awards in categories including best actor, actress and film will be announced at the ceremony.
