Dubai: In the romantic comedy Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, it’s a personality clash that’s the deal breaker between Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan. The scenario isn’t too different in real life.
While Khan prefers to use humour to describe his stint shooting in an Indian village, Kapoor believes in speaking her mind.
“Imran, don’t lie. It was hot, sticky and bad ... It was not some picnic,” said Kapoor at a press conference at Dubai’s Grand Hyatt on Friday evening. She plays an activist called Dia Sharma who believes in saving the world. However, her boyfriend, Sriram Venkat, (Khan) is self-centred and is exasperated with his girlfriend’s need to do collective good.
“We treated Kareena like a star. I gave her foot massages and even held her umbrella. Puneet [Malhotra, director], used to give her chilled lemonade constantly. We made sure she was comfortable,” joked Khan. Gori Tere Pyaar Mein reunites the pair after their 2011 hit Ek Mein Aur Ekk Tu, a romantic comedy set in the US.
“Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu was a coming-of-age film and bears no resemblance to Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. Our new film explores the relationship between a modern couple. It’s not the external factors such as parents’ objection or the rich-poor divide that dictates the outcome of their relationship. It’s their personality clash and the issues between them,” said Khan. While Khan revelled in sinking his teeth into his character, Kapoor says playing a village belle comes with its perks.
“I love wearing Patiala suits and salwars. I could eat 24 jalebis and no one will know that I have a stomach. In Gujarat, I had around 20 jalebis but you could never tell,” said Kapoor.
The pair had a packed schedule in Dubai that included a fan interaction at the Arabian Centre.
“I am a car junkie. So if we have time, I would love to check out the Dubai Motor Show,” said Khan.
Gori Tere Pyaar Mein releases in the UAE on November 21.
