Lashes and brows

The 20s brow was a bold one! And almost 100 years later, we’re loving the trend all over again. If you’re not blessed with naturally heavier brows, and yours are a little sparse-looking, use a brow pencil or shadow one or two shades darker than your own to fill in the gaps and extend in a downwards slant towards the outer corner of the eye.

Brush three layers of black lengthening mascara through your natural eyelashes, and add a few individual fake lashes to the top and bottom outer corners to amp up the flutter factor.

Cheeks and skin

Tanning was a sign of ill-breeding and poverty in the roaring 20s, with an uber-creamy skin considered the ultimate beauty must. For a flaw-free, Daisy Buchannan inspired complexion, give the fake tan and bronzers a miss, and give your face a flash of colour with a rosy pink blush.

The eyes

Ancient Egypt was all the rage in the 1920s, with Cleopatra’s dramatic eye-make-up one of the most inspirational looks of them all. Sultry, smoky eyeshadows, plenty of black kohl and lashings of lengthening and thickening mascara make for a smouldering look that’s dazzling after dark.

The lips

There’s nothing more glamorous than an exquisitely painted red lip, and the girls of The Great Gatsby never underestimated the power of a ruby pout in getting them what they wanted.

To achieve a long-lasting look, cover the lips with foundation, and use a matching lip pencil to your lipstick to carefully draw in the lip line and fill in the lips.

Use a brush to apply a similar shade of lipstick over the top, blot with tissue, and repeat three times for seriously locked-in colour. Stick to deep red, plum and berry shades for the ultimate 20s revival.
