A focused experience

In keeping with the theme of Notes' cover story this week on studying abroad, I thought I'd write my account of moving away from home. Moving country is never easy, but moving to a country all by yourself is harder. You get nervous but excited because you have no idea what to expect, but have all these dreams of what could happen.

I went back to pursue my higher education in the UK after moving away at the age of six. It was not an easy task nor an easy step to take, but one well worth it. I would not change it for the world.

Living away from home and entering university cements your official transition into adulthood. To suddenly find yourself with no one to answer to, be it parents or teachers, staying focused on the goal of actually getting an education can be a chore if you allow yourself to get distracted or side tracked.

Over time and through trial and error I found balance to be the key. If the scales between things you have to do and things you want to do shift in either direction, things can get complicated. So if you're the type of person who has the energy to work hard and play hard, it comes highly recommended. If you stay focused, you will learn, enjoy and experience absolutely everything you want and need, which makes for a great adventure.
