Monday night was the chance for Dubai's academic community and government officials to show they cared.

Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum urged higher education government officials, university leadership and professors and student councils of Dubai's universities to take an active role in the Dubai Cares campaign.

He encouraged the participation of university students, highlighting their role as leaders of positive change in the community. The call was made at an event held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

What it is

The Dubai Cares campaign is spearheaded by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and his children.

The campaign, appropriately taking place during Ramadan, aims to put one million children through primary school.
