First, congratulations! Your movie, On the Job, made it to the UN Certain Regard Section of the Cannes Film Festival.
Thank you. It’s really quite an honour for me, and for the rest of the cast and crew, including Piolo Pascual and our director Erik Matti. It’s a dream come true for any actor or artist and I am glad it happened early in my career. It motivates me to work harder, and be more serious with my craft. It’s a big accomplishment for me, but I need to do more.
What’s different about your role in the movie?
I get to do a lot of action scenes which I did in some of my past projects, but the first time I’m doing it on the big screen. I also have another action-themed project, but it also has some dramatic elements to it. I’m looking forward to doing that, too.
Does this mean you’ll now be focusing on becoming an action star?
I’d like to do a variety of roles, and be more versatile as an actor. It just so happens that the movie projects being lined up for me require a lot more action scenes, which I am excited about because the script is good.
That is all great. But what the public really wants to know more about is your love life. How are you and Maja Salvador?
We’re great. We’re enjoying each other’s company.
Does that mean you’re now a couple?
We’re having fun together. [Laughs]
Flowers for Maja, meaningful tweets, pictures of you together — all point to you being a couple. What’s the real score?
The important thing is we are happy. That is really all I have to say.
What can you say to people who tag you as a heart-breaker or playboy?
I really don’t have to prove myself to anybody. I am an actor — that’s where I have to prove myself. As a person, I think I don’t have to prove myself. I cannot please everybody. There will always be someone who will say something against me, whether I do everything right or wrong. I cannot please everybody.
What can you say about Kim Chiu and Maja Salvador allegedly losing their friendship because of you? [Chiu was romantically linked to Anderson before; and she and Salvador used to be best of friends until word got out that Salvador and Anderson are playing sweet music together].
I have nothing to say about it.
