Emma Roberts plays the clever and courageous super sleuth. Sara Saleh from Sydney writes

Film: Nancy Drew
Director: Andrew Fleming
Cast: Emma Roberts, Tate Donovan, Rachel Leigh Cook, Max Thieriot, Josh Flinter.

Based on the popular teen detective series by Carolyn Keene, this big screen version of Nancy Drew places Emma Roberts as the clever and courageous super sleuth.

When temporarily moving from small town River Heights to the glitzy world of Los Angeles with her father (Tate Donovan), Nancy chooses an eerie manor as their new home.

The mansion's previous owner was none other than Hollywood starlet, Dehlia Draycott, who mysteriously died in the 1980s.

Any mystery means trouble for Nancy, and with a little help from a newfound sidekick (Josh Flinter) and old River Heights friend Ned Nickerson (Max Thieriot) she takes on this case, determined to find out the secret behind the house and the key to solving Dehlia's death, all the while trying to fit into the LA high school world of fashion, stilettos, makeup and boys.

Emma Roberts brings a genuine performance to the screen, making this a pleasantly warm, refreshing film that is not blockbuster material but is certainly in keeping with the spirit of the books that have been entertaining young teenage girls for decades.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
Cast: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Steve Buscemi, Ving Rhames, Jessica Biel

Best friends and fellow fire fighters Chuck Levine (Sandler) and Larry Valentine (James) put together a senseless plan to fool the government into giving singleton Larry domestic partner benefits.

Signature Adam Sandler humour that mixes horrible with a rambling plot and a few overused jokes. Not worth more than a locker room laugh.

We say: Cheap shot
