Dubai: There can be only one Highlander - and he came to town today.

Christopher Lambert, most famous for his role as Connor MacLeod in the fantasy film series, arrived at a busy press conference at the Dubai International Film Festival.

Sharing heart-felt opinions on life and love ahead of Monday evening’s Focus on France gala screening of Cartegena, in which he plays a lead character, Lambert said he has always wanted to believe in fairytale romances.

“Cartegena is a film with no borders,” he said. “As long as there is love and hearts then colour, religion and physical differences don’t matter. What you see and feel is what you have to go for. It is a dream for most. A Cinderella story which seems so difficult to reach. But it’s possible and I would like the world to strive for it.”

Starring alongside Sophie Marceau, a paraplegic with whom Lambert’s ex-boxer falls in love despite many hurdles along the way, the 52-year-old French actor will tonight walk the red carpet ahead of the Middle East premiere of the movie.

“The purpose of making a movie is to feature what’s in it,” he said. “It doesn’t matter where the movie is set or which nationality the person making it is. It’s about something which feeds a writer, a director and actor and then the audience. We have to consider what it’s giving us before we give anything back.”
