After numerous successful wedding-themed films, the Sooraj Barjatya camp is hopeful of their latest addition.

Rajshri Productions has always churned out traditional, family-based films like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hai Kaun, Hum Saath Saath Hai and Vivaah. And in keeping with tradition, the Barjatya camp is ready with Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi.

This time around, Sooraj Barjatya, the mastermind behind these films, is the producer and has handed over the directorial reins to debutant Kaushik Ghata. The film stars Sonu Sood and Isha Koppikar in the lead.

Quintessential Prem

Prem has always been the lead character's screen name in Rajshri Productions. Salman Khan, who played the lead in Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hai Kaun and Hum Saath Saath Hai, has immortalised 'Prem'. Shahid Kapur also managed to successfully step into Prem's shoes in Vivaah.

And now it's Sood's turn to depict his version of Prem in Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi. "It was a huge responsibility to play 'Prem'. I have given 'Prem' my own touch," says Sood. The actor has received positive reviews for his performances in this year's biggest blockbusters – Jodhaa Akbar and Singh Is Kinng.

The traditional girl

If the character of 'Prem' is associated with being the prefect gentleman, then the Rajshri heroines are the epitome of humbleness, warmth and simplicity. Koppikar gets an opportunity to win the hearts of millions as the simple Chandni. In fact, Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi will be a paradigm shift for Koppikar, who resurrected her career with an item number in Company and a bold role in Girlfriend.

"I still remember my first narration of my character and the film. I was sobbing and sobbing. The honesty with which Kaushik dada narrated the story really touched me. I like to believe that this is God's greatest gift," says Koppikar.

Sequel to Vivaah?

Considering that Vivaah was Barjatya's last film that dealt with a marital relationship, there was speculation that Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi could be its sequel. "Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi is not a sequel to Vivaah. This film is another look at the male-female relationship, which is so beautiful," clarifies Barjatya.

Also, there is a strong buzz that the film is inspired by Rajshri's own production, Tapasya, which starred Rakhee in an award-winning role.

Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi follows the emotional journey of Prem, a ghazal singer, and Chandni, who's trained in classical and folk music. Prem and Chandni's engagement is called off due to unforeseen circumstances and they wait for 12 years to be reunited.

Musical journey

The film's musical backdrop is supported by Ravindra Jain's soulful music.

"I've spent a lifetime working with Rajshri, yet each movie has been a unique and enriching journey in itself. Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi is a unique and challenging musical," says Jain.
