Mohammad attends academic gathering on Islamic art
Abu Dhabi: General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Tuesday attended a lecture on Islamic art.
The lecture, held at Shaikh Mohammad's Majlis, was delivered by Professor Nasser Khalili, Islamic art collector and owner of Khalili treasures.
It was given in line with intellectual gatherings being held periodically by the Majlis and attended by thinkers, scholars and elites to create understanding on a number of issues.
Present were Shaikh Saud Bin Rashid Al Mualla, Umm Al Quwain Crown Prince, Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, other shaikhs and senior officials.
Khalili said that his "activities focused over the last 30 years on collecting pieces of Islamic artwork."
Professor Khalili is an Iranian scholar, collector and benefactor who assembled the collection of his family.
He is considered an authoritative Islamic art collector who has assembled five major collections, including the largest privately owned Islamic collection.
Khalili is also the author of several reference books about Islamic art including the Timeline History of Islamic Art and Architecture.
