Dubai: The Dubai College of Tourism (DCT), part of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism), has partnered with the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) to award up to 20 full scholarships for its ‘Certificate in Retail’ course, which starts on September 9.
These scholarships are being offered to Emiratis and expat residents in the UAE.
The DCT on Thursday outlined five key reasons why a scholarship at the college could appeal to students looking to launch a career in retail.
It said a vocational course such as the Certificate in Retail is designed to bridge the gap between in-house training and a conventional university degree, allowing students to learn practical skills that have direct industry application for career opportunities. The course, it added, is particularly valuable if students eventually choose to take up a job with a tourist-facing role in Dubai’s growing retail sector.
Also, the ‘City of Gold Scholarship’ initiative gives students the opportunity to be a part of Dubai’s expanding retail landscape, including the possibility of securing an internship with retailers in the DGJG network.
Moreover, the scholarship programme will mix classroom learning with real-world experience and includes internships in the industry while studying, offering hands-on training and access to industry expertise.
Each of the 20 recipients of the ‘City of Gold Scholarship’ will be provided with a fully-funded academic grant to cover the total tuition costs throughout the year, DCT added. The initiative is the first in a series of full academic scholarships that will be awarded under the DCT Scholarship Fund, in collaboration with leading industry partners.
Successful candidates will be eligible to apply for exciting career opportunities within the DGJG’s network of retailers — it has 600 members — upon completion of the course, allowing students to enter the workforce with practical experience and industry connections.
