Dubai: The Architectural Heritage Department of Dubai Municipality has joined the World Heritage Day celebrations of Unesco, observed on April 18 every year.

The Municipality, which has extended the activities until Friday, April 20, has organised various heritage events at the Mercato Mall as part of its annual programme to promote heritage awareness and preserve the popular heritage of the UAE, according to a press release.

The events, with the slogan, “Heritage for Generations,” include a series of exhibitions such as a photo exhibition of the Shaikhs of the UAE by Al Nahda Women’s Association, an exhibition of the photographs of the Architectural Heritage Society, an exhibition of Arabic calligraphy and stamp collections, and a gallery of heritage collections in cooperation with Zam’a Bint Souda School.

The activities also include a series of workshops for children, such as the Arabic Calligraphy Workshop and drawing workshop by the Zam’a Bint Souda School, children’s heritage competitions, the distribution of gifts to the participants and the show by a popular folk group on the art of war, photography with traditional dresses, in addition to the sale of traditional food.

In keeping with heritage events and organising activities related to UAE heritage and its involvement by children, the Municipality seeks to build a generation that cherishes its patriotism and Arabic roots and is guided by the popular values transferred by the Emirati people generation after generation, the civic body said.
