Dubai: Dubai Cares has announced a series of initiatives and volunteering opportunities to raise funds for its programmes and engage the UAE community this Ramadan.

Through various partnerships with the retail sector, these are set to make it easier for shoppers and mall visitors to make a donation throughout the month.

In support of the Year of Zayed, the charity has launched a monthlong activation event at Dubai Mall titled 9-HIJRI.

Visitors and shoppers will be taken through nine immersive zones spread across the mall, presenting an enriching experience with exhibits, interactive workshops and inspiring showcases of Islamic culture, religion and heritage.

The seventh Zone, “Giving”, embraces the value of generosity and giving and will be located near Fashion Catwalk. This Zone features a school-shaped installation, which will be illuminated over the month with light bulbs available for purchase as donations. All funds raised will go towards funding girls education programmes in the Middle East region.

Among the other initiatives is a collaboration with UAE-based LuLu Hypermarkets which will see the launch of a Point of Sale (POS) campaign across its hypermarkets in the UAE. Customers will be able to make a Dh1 donation or more towards Dubai Cares’ Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in school programmes in developing countries.

Similarly, Dubai Cares has also partnered with Landmark Group through another POS campaign, which will run across Landmark Group’s UAE retail stores and offer customers the opportunity to make a Dh5 donation in support of Dubai Cares’ girls’ education programmes.

Supporters and volunteers will get the chance to donate their time and effort by joining the “Back to School” edition of Volunteer Emirates taking place between May 26 and 29 and at Al Boom Tourist Village.

The event will witness more than 2,000 volunteers come together to pack school kits that will be distributed to 50,000 children affected by Syrian crisis in Jordan ahead of the beginning of the new school year.

“We hope that members of the UAE community will take advantage of various opportunities for making donations we are making available to them,” said Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer at Dubai Cares. “We are very proud of these partnerships with the retail and F&B sector as they truly reflect the authenticity and culture of the UAE community, as well as the deep roots of the virtue of charitable work throughout the country.”

Dubai Cares’ other retail and F&B partners during Ramadan include Amber, Ounass and Nisnass within Al Tayer Insignia, Darlie Global, Johnson & Johnson, Integral Shopper, Oasis, Shatha Essa, Subway and the Luxury Closet.

Yousuf Ali MA, Chairman & Managing Director at LuLu Group said they have pledged Dh10 million in support of Dubai Cares’ overarching mission to positively impact the lives of underprivileged children and young people through education.
