Dubai: A woman employee has been accused of biting a policewoman and cursing her while under the influence of liquor, a court heard on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old Uzbek woman was said to have been pulled over by a traffic police patrol when she was caught drunk driving in Al Barsha.

When the Uzbek woman refused to cooperate with the traffic policemen, according to records, a patrol of policewomen was called as backup from the police station.

Once the policewoman asked the Uzbek woman and her friend to step out of the car, the friend complied and went and sat in the police car unlike the 27-year-old who did not respond.

When the policewoman tried to handcuff her, the Uzbek woman resisted and assaulted and insulted the policewoman.

Records said the 27-year-old employee bit the policewoman’s finger and cursed her and her family before she was restrained and handcuffed.

Prosecutors accused the Uzbek suspect of getting drunk, biting a policewoman and cursing her.

The suspect failed to appear before the Dubai Court of First Instance where she was scheduled to enter her plea on Tuesday.

The policewoman claimed to prosecutors that the incident happened when the suspect was apprehended for drunk driving.

“They called me for backup and went to the street where the woman had been asked to pull over. She was siting in her car with her friend … I asked them both to step out of the vehicle. The friend went to the police car unlike the suspect who refused to respond. When the 27-year-old tried to run away as I was handcuffing her, she resisted and bit me and cursed me. My partners and I restrained her and handcuffed her then made her sit in the police car,” she testified to prosecutors.

In her police statement, the Uzbek suspect alleged that she was drunk and nervous at the time when she assaulted and resisted the policewoman.

Presiding judge Mohammad Jamal will sentence the suspect in absentia on June 3.
