Dubai: Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairman of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation and president of the National Olympic Committee, said the UAE’s participation in the London Olympics is a source of pride for the country.
In a statement coinciding with the launch of the Games, Shaikh Ahmad said the country’s participation is also a source of pride for every sports association that managed to overcome challenges and qualify to this worldwide event. He added that this is also a historic achievement for UAE athletes, who proved that Emiratis are capable of rising to the challenge and achieving glory with the care and support they receive from the UAE’s wise leadership.
Shaikh Ahmad expressed his wish that every UAE athlete would achieve outstanding results and performances during the Olympics, which would serve the Olympic movement in the country.
“We are very confident in the capabilities of our athletes to achieve positive results to reflect the civilised image of the UAE,” Shaikh Ahmad said.
“On this occasion, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the support given to sports and athletes by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council,” he added.
