TRA accredits registrars for domain names

Dubai: A week after the successful launch of registration and licensing process for the national domain name (.ae) by the Department of the .ae Domain Administration at the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), it has accredited six companies to provide .ae domain name registration services.

etisalat and du are the national accredited registrars. On the global level, the TRA has accredited four international companies such as Ascio of Denmark, Instra of Australia, IPMirror of Singapore and MarkMonitor of the United States.

The new .aeDA registry system will allow end users to register .ae domain names through the registrar's website and put them into effect immediately if the registrar's system supports the required features. The accredited registrars commenced registering .ae domain names from the time the .aeDA Registry system went live on August 3, 2008.

"The .aeDA presently has six accredited registrars, with another two likely to come on board soon. We have had strong interest both locally and internationally, and we have developed strict policy and procedural guidelines to ensure that these companies offer excellent customer service and have exceptional technical skills," said Eng. Mohammad Al Khamis, manager of ICT planning at the TRA.
