14 organisations from various fields honoured
Abu Dhabi: Fourteen organisations in various fields received the Shaikh Khalifa Excellence Award on Monday night during a ceremony attended by about 1,000 officials from the government and private sectors.
Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser, presented the award to the 2009 winners representing the oil and gas, health care, tourism, service, construction, manufacturing and finance sectors.
The organisations were honoured in the Gold and Silver categories.
The award started in 1999 and has since been considered the quality roadmap for all organisations in Abu Dhabi.
The Shaikh Khalifa Excellence Award has managed to disseminate and consolidate concepts of quality and excellence among various economic and services communities in Abu Dhabi, said Mohammad Rashid Al Hameli, chairman of the Abu Dhabi International Centre for Organisational Excellence (ADICOE) and director general of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
"The ADICOE has been launched as one of the most important initiatives adopted by the Chamber to disseminate a culture of quality and organisational excellence in Abu Dhabi, the UAE and in the region, as well as to provide top-level advanced services in the field of quality, distinction and business excellence; that is, the centre which is supervising the programme of the Shaikh Khalifa Excellence Award," Al Hameli said.
The Award, he added, has been designed to recognise the achievements of those organisations, which can demonstrate their total quality has contributed significantly to improved performance. Realising that they cannot survive without adhering to quality management and business excellence, many organisations have found that this search for excellence was the surest way to achieve a sustained competitive edge.
Potential areas
The Award programme model was, therefore, designed to assist both manufacturing and service enterprises to probe their points of strength, explore potential areas for improvement and assess the extent of progress with respect to the implementation of excellence performance criteria, included in the model, in an objective manner.
Through providing a comprehensive methodology for review and periodical assessment, the Award model is used to guide enterprises interested in scoring further progress based on continual improvement of performance.
Accordingly, it enables enterprises to make progress, increase profit, contributing thereby, to the comprehensive and sustainable development of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi at large.
Using an action plan that covers all priorities of action and defines objectives, ownership and key measures of success, the organisation monitors its achievements and progress against the plan through an approach referred to as SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Resourced and/or realistic and Timebound or trackable).
