Dubai: The first of the main contractor tenders at the Aljada master-development in Sharjah. Modern Building Contracting Co will thus be handling the first four “Areej” apartment blocks within phase 1.

Mobilisation will now take place, with full construction commencing by the month-end. The buildings, which will have the first homes to be built within the 24 million square foot project, are scheduled to be completed by end 2019. In total, over 250 units will be built across the four apartment blocks.

The contract is the latest announcement at Aljada, a Dh24 billion mixed-use destination on the “last large plot of undeveloped land in the heart of Sharjah”. In April, the developer, Arada, announced the launch of East Village, a 15-building community targeting a younger generation and part of phase 2.

Also in April, Arada signed a management agreement with Emaar Hospitality Group for three hotels. Delivered in phases starting in 2019, the entire project is expected to be completed by 2025.

According to the Chairman, Shaikh Sultan Bin Ahmad Al Qasimi, “This award [to MBCC] is an important milestone for Aljada as we move into the development phase of this transformational project.”
